The "Look"

If you ask any of my children they will tell you I never had to punish them when out in public, all I had to do was give them 'the look'.  There have been many discussions over the years about 'the look', some were funny, some not so funny.  What I can tell you is 'the look' worked for me.  They would stop whatever they might be doing, that they knew was not allowed, and look repentant (obviously they learned to perfect their 'look' also).

That being said, I was reading a blog my daughter does to keep the family up to date on their family and I came across this picture.
It is apparent to me that my littlest grandchild has perfected his 'look' of disapproval.  Of course it also gave me a good laugh.  I love the furrowed eyebrows and pursed lips.  I just love the dimple in his chin too
The Graminator misses you little 'C'.

Overdue Post about Winning a Giveaway

Way back on January 26th I entered a giveaway at Meet the Falkers, and on February 2nd I was notified that I had won this giveaway.  It is the first blog giveaway that I actually won.   I try to only enter a giveaway if the product or item is something that I will use or wear, so I have not entered to many....yet!

So here is the little beauty that I won from Lindsay at Meet the Falkers.  I have my granddaughter, who designs jewelry, making me a cute little necklace to wear with my prize.

Sorry it took me so long to post this little jewel.  It was handmade by Margaret at Little Heart Shaped Box.  You can check out her Esty shop and see all the beautiful pendants she makes.

Thank you Lindsay for having the giveaway, and thank you Margaret for making such a lovely pendant.

Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure - Fundraising

This year,  on July 23 - 25, I'll be participating in a very special event called the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure.

I'll walk 60 miles over the course of three days with thousands of other women and men. Net proceeds from the Komen 3-Day for the Cure are invested in breast cancer research and community programs.

I've agreed to raise at least $2,300 in donations. I've set my personal goal at $3500. So I need your help. Would you please consider making a donation? Keep in mind how far I'm walking - and how hard I'll have to train. You can give online at The3Day.org. Just click on the widget to the left to visit my personal fundraising Web page and make a donation. You can also call 800-996-3DAY to donate over the phone.

I am walking with my daughter-in-law who's grandmother is currently being treated for breast cancer.  I will also be walking in the memory of Christine Hartman Myers, who lost her very long battle with breast cancer on April 17, 2006.

One person is diagnosed with breast cancer every three minutes in the United States. That's why I'm walking so far. To do something bold about breast cancer. I hope that you'll share this incredible adventure with me - by supporting me in my fundraising efforts.

Thank you in advance for your generosity!

There is a widget on the left side of this blog, you can click on it to go to my Susan G. Komen donation page.
Please feel free to pass this information on to all your friends.

Also, you can ask your employer if they will double your donation through a matching gift program!

It is Spring Somewhere.....

Today I was at my local grocery doing what one does at the local grocery, trying to find something to eat that does not remind me that it is winter.  I was cruising around the store and when I reached the veggie/fruit section I discovered  'it is Spring somewhere'.  These beauties where there just waiting for me.

They were a little pricey so I thought about it for about 30 nanoseconds and then they jumped into my cart.  I was concerned that they would not be sweet and juicy like my memory of strawberries from last spring.  I was not disappointed, they are every bit as tasty as they look.  I have eaten about 1/2 of them, and when I finish this post I will probably eat the remainder.

This strawberry fix has made it real, spring will be here soon and I am so excited.

I am so done with WINTER!!!!

This has been the strangest winter I have encountered in many many years (yes I am old and I remember lots of past winters).  I have lived in places of great snow and enjoyed getting through those winters.  Now I live in a place where it rarely snows, and if it does it is never more than a dusting.  This winter however has been different!  We had our first snow early in the winter, and yes it was just a dusting.  Our second snow came on January 29/30 and it was "7" inches!  That snow was followed by a day of freezing rain, so then we had an inch of ice on top of the snow.  It closed all the schools (for 3 days) and almost everything else for a couple of days since the roads were a hazard.  The street that leads to my driveway was finally plowed on February 4th, that is 5 days later.  Okay, so we had our 'big' storm, now on to spring, I thought.  Not so fast, we got another storm last night, it was not as bad as the one two weeks ago, but it was snow.  It varied from 2 to 7 inches depending on where you are located.  I am so done with winter.

Looking out my front door this morning.

Looking out my back door this morning.

I heard on the news earlier that there is snow on the ground in 49 of the 50 states (you are lucky if you live in Hawaii) for the first time ever.  What's up with that?

So how is your weather, are you snowed in?

Super Snapshot Saturday

Today is Super Snapshot Saturday, hosted by Angel at  Emily Makes Three.  Head over there for the rules and to grab your mclinky.

This is a picture I took about 6 months ago of my ten year old granddaughter(she is 11 now).  She did not know I was taking her picture, which is when I get the best photos.

Now it is your turn, post a picture or two that you have taken recently (or not so recently).

Five Question Friday 2/5/2010

Since today is Friday (thank heaven, could not take much more of this week), it is Five Question Friday over at Mama M's My Little Life.  All you have to do to join is copy the 5 questions below to your blog, answer them and go over to My Little Life and grab the McLinky.  Join in it is fun.

1. What are you most afraid of?

2. Do you use a flat iron or curling iron?

3. Hands-free or phone to the ear?

4. Do you have a matching bedroom set?

5. Do you believe in the paranormal?

**********************************************************************************************************

1. What are you most afraid of?
I am most afraid of getting really old and having to way to support myself.  I am already retired, and have a decent income, but it frightens me that my former employer will someday cut off my retirement.  I know it is weird, but so many things have changed in corporate America that I cannot help but let this creep into my thoughts.

2. Do you use a flat iron or curling iron?

I have both, and it depends on my mood and what hairstyle I want to have that day.

3. Hands-free or phone to the ear?

I have a blue tooth, but it bothers me, so I usually have the phone to my ear.  I no longer use my phone while driving, and I don't even have texting on my phone, so I never do that either.  **PSA** please stop using your phone while driving, it is a dangerous habit/addiction.  **end of PSA**

4. Do you have a matching bedroom set?

The very first new furniture I ever owned was a matching bedroom set that I bought in 1989.  I still have it, the big four poster bed with matching triple dress w/mirror, tall dresser and night stands(2).  It is distressed pine and I still love it.

5. Do you believe in the paranormal?

I would have to say yes!  Some past experiences with things that go bump in the night and windows that were open each morning (after being closed and locked the night before) made a believer out of me.  Nothing scary, just a healthy respect for the paranormal.

Now it is your turn, come join, it is fun to learn about other bloggers.
